Man of 1000 Faces

Daniel Gordon (born 1968) grew up in a very proper Jewish household, but it was always the movies that fascinated him. This love affair for costume and monster-making began when he got a job as the gofer for the assistant makeup artist for the movie Creepshow when he was in High School. For the next several years he worked in the movie industry and survived his mother's guilt about not having a proper job. Unfortunately for him, Daniel was simply born 10 years too late - CGI was arriving on the scene.

Determined not to fail he turned his talents into a career as a beautician, which nearly sent his mother to an early grave. By 1999 he went into business with his long-term partner Richard Marks, causing his mother to suffer a “heart attack” when he told her of their relationship, founding the salon Allure. There are currently 3 Allure salons in Pittsburgh and while Daniel is no longer in a relationship with Richard they still remain very good friends and business partners.

In 2011 Daniel sold all but 10% of his stake in Allure to Richard and used the money to open up his dream business specializing in high-end costuming. Originally named Grodno's Theatrics, in 2012 it was renamed Hollywood Costumes and has now become the premier place in the Greater Pittsburgh area for super heroes to get their costumes.
